The service of Nine Lessons and Carols was first drawn up by The Archbishop Benson, when Bishop of Truro, for use in that Cathedral. When he became Archbishop of Canterbury and lived in Addington Palace, he adapted the service for use here in St Mary’s, Addington - believed to be the first parish church to use this carol service.
